GALERIE ATELIER DE NAAKTE AAP

Mijn lichte en ruime Galerie is gevestigd in een oud bankgebouw in het centrum van Maasniel-Roermond. De oude geldkluizen zijn nog aanwezig:). 

De naam Galerie Atelier de Naakte Aap is geen toeval. Het is een verwijzing naar het baanbrekende boek van Desmond Morris, waarin hij de mens bekijkt als een dier, een naakte aap, gedreven door instincten, verlangens en oeroude patronen. Morris toont hoe we, ondanks onze beschaving en cultuur, nog steeds gevormd worden door primitieve drijfveren.

In onze samenleving leren we ons te gedragen, ons aan te passen. We ontwikkelen maskers om geaccepteerd te worden, om controle te houden, om niet te kwetsbaar te zijn. Maar onder al die lagen blijft de naakte aap in ons bestaan: puur, spontaan, ongeremd. Wat gebeurt er als we die laag durven aanraken? Bij Galerie Atelier de Naakte Aap staat juist dat wezenlijke, onverbloemde mens-zijn centraal. Zowel kunst als psychologie helpen ons om dichter bij onszelf te komen, om los te laten wat aangeleerd is en te ontdekken wat authentiek is. In de psychologie onderzoeken we waarom we ons gedragen zoals we doen. In de kunst durven we onszelf te laten zien zonder uitleg of verantwoording.


Ik zie voortdurend de worsteling van mensen om te kunnen voelen zonder filter, kijken zonder oordeel, en jezelf zijn zonder masker. Het zijn echter cruciale waardes, want pas als we onszelf begrijpen in onze meest pure vorm, kunnen we echt vrij zijn:

I think I'm sophisticated 'cause I'm living my life like a good homo sapiens. I think I'm so educated and I'm so civilized cause I'm a strict vegetarian. And with the over population and inflation and starvation and the crazy politicians I don't feel safe in this world no more. I don't want to die in a nuclear war. I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an apeman.
